The certification examinations are designed to test for the candidates’s knowledge and understanding of the applicable codes, standards, and practices required for the specific certifications. Examination structures and content are based on American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) Series 6000 (Professional Qualifications Standard for Medical Gas Systems Personnel) guidelines, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes, and many other generally accepted industry documents, policies, and procedures. All certification exams are written multiple choice and true/false questions. Some exams have additional written and/or practical components. Some medical gas certifications also require a practical examination for brazing, which is based on the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standards (Section IX). Industry professionals are also consulted in each certification area for additional practical and vital information they deem important for certified personnel to know and understand. Candidates are provided with outlines of the topics covered in each examination.
