The ASSE 6040 program is for individuals involved in the maintenance of medical gas systems at health care facilities. The certification is based on the code requirements identified in NFPA 99, and NFPA 55. Candidates will be tested for a basic understanding of medical gas systems general knowledge, applications, components, basic operating principles and performance characteristics, critical safety precautions, maintenance and testing. This certification consists of a verification of the required experience and 24-hour training, and a 100-question exam. Certification / Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must meet the following requirements in order to become ASSE 6040 Certified.
- All candidates shall be employed or contracted by a healthcare facility or actively engaged in working with medical gas systems.
- All candidates shall have a minimum of one (1) year of documented experience in the maintenance or testing of medical gas systems.
- All candidates shall have successfully completed a twenty-four (24) hour training course covering all aspects of the ASSE Standard 6040.
- All candidates must successfully pass the certification exam.
